See The Light: Local Glass Studio Lets Creativity Shine
Insite Brazos Magazine ~ September 2005
The beginning of the article focuses on a local stained glass studio and the increased local demand for glass art. Here
are the last few paragraphs:
One artist approached about displaying her works at the store is Mary Harrell, who markets mosaic pieces almost exclusively
through her website (www.marymakingdesigns.com) and word of mouth. She quit her job as a lawyer when she was 20 weeks pregnant
and new to this community, and now she creates mosaic crosses, picture frames and birdhouses in her south College Station
garage in between caring for her children, who are 4, 2 and 1. "I've been approached my several retail stores to sell there
but I just can't," she said. "I do well to keep up with the projects I've got going and I don't really have any 'extras' I
could put out at a store."
Harrell said mosaic work isn't difficult, it's just tedious. And it take times to develop your own style, she said. "I
think it takes artistic vision to make something people will consider art and will pay money for, and that's where God comes
in," she said. "It's totally a gift. I firmly feel if you have a creative side to you, you need to indulge it or else you're
denying part of who you are and you'll never feel completely fulfilled."
